Hackers associated with the group “Anonymous” defaced a website linked to GlobalX, an airline involved in transporting deported Venezuelan migrants under the Trump administration’s controversial immigration policies. The attack, revealed through a Reuters investigation, targeted a subdomain of the airline’s site, displaying a message from the hackers condemning the deportations and the airline’s role in them.

GlobalX, whose aircraft were used to carry out deportations to an offshore detention center in El Salvador, became a focal point in the heated debate over the Trump administration’s immigration policies. The airline’s involvement drew significant attention after the deportations were deemed unlawful by a judge, though the administration has continued with the campaign despite the ruling.

The message posted by the hackers on GlobalX’s website was written in white text on a black background, with an illustration of a Guy Fawkes mask – a symbol often associated with Anonymous. The hackers, who identified themselves as part of the activist group, declared their decision to enforce the judge’s order, accusing the airline of ignoring lawful commands and supporting “fascist plans.” The message further criticized the airline for its role in the deportations, which have faced backlash from various human rights groups.

The airline, as well as U.S. immigration officials, did not respond to requests for comment regarding the incident. The defacement follows previous reports, such as one from ProPublica, that have raised concerns about safety practices and the treatment of detainees during deportation flights operated by GlobalX. Testimonies from flight attendants have also highlighted issues with the shackling and mistreatment of detainees on these flights.
