Pinterest is enhancing its fashion search capabilities with the introduction of a new AI-powered tool aimed at helping users find the perfect fashion accessories — even if they can’t describe them. The company is leveraging a “Visual Language Model” to generate descriptive words for the styles and vibes of image Pins on its platform, allowing users to explore and refine their personal fashion preferences.
The innovative tool analyzes and decodes images, making it easier for users to search for specific details in outfits across Pinterest. For example, if you see a skirt in a Pin that catches your eye, you can click on the image to receive a description of the color palette, fit, aesthetic, and more. From there, you can fine-tune the style by adjusting elements like the color, fabric, or even the occasion, helping you find an outfit that’s perfect for different settings, such as work environments.
The new visual search feature is initially being launched for women’s fashion content, starting today in the US, Canada, and the UK. Pinterest has plans to expand the tool to other fashion categories and regions “over time,” offering a more personalized and intuitive shopping experience.
