European healthcare systems are grappling with a growing challenge: vast amounts of unstructured data. Despite significant investments in digital tools, nearly 80% of healthcare data remains buried in free-text formats—clinical notes, imaging reports, and doctor narratives. This disconnect forces clinicians to spend nearly half their time on administrative tasks, contributing to physician burnout. A recent survey shows that 93% of doctors experience burnout, often working an additional 15 hours each week outside regular hours. Founded in Milan in 2024, ReportAId is addressing this issue head-on.
The startup offers an AI-powered platform that interprets unstructured medical documents and transforms them into structured, interactive tools. These tools guide patients and clinicians through personalized care pathways, cutting down administrative work and improving care outcomes.
Transforming Medical Reports into Actionable Plans
At the heart of ReportAId’s platform is advanced natural language processing (NLP) technology that converts clinical documents into actionable insights. Traditional healthcare systems focus heavily on structured data, but often overlook the critical information found in physician notes or discharge summaries. ReportAId bridges this gap by extracting insights from these complex sources and converting them into personalized care plans, all while maintaining compliance with strict European privacy regulations.
This approach is already making an impact. The system has been deployed at leading Italian institutions like San Raffaele Hospital and is currently being adopted by Ospedale Isola Tiberina – Gemelli Isola. Hospitals using the platform have reported up to a 25% increase in revenue, thanks to more efficient care coordination and fewer missed follow-ups.
With €2.2 million in pre-seed funding secured, ReportAId plans to scale its operations across Italy and Europe. The round was led by the Italian Founders Fund and backed by several other firms including Heartfelt, Exceptional Ventures, 2100 Ventures, Vento, and Vesper Holding. Notable angel investors such as Luca Ascani and Luca Foschini also joined the round.
The funding will support the hiring of ten new team members and accelerate the company’s expansion. ReportAId’s founders—Giuseppe Faraci (CEO), Claudio Caletti (CTO), and Luca Foresti (Chairman)—believe the technology will play a foundational role in the future of European healthcare.
A Scalable Vision Aligned with EU Health Goals
ReportAId is uniquely positioned to contribute to the European Union’s European Health Data Space (EHDS), which aims to make digital health data more accessible for both care and research by 2029. The platform creates comprehensive clinical databases that help health systems track patient journeys, prevent missed follow-ups, and avoid unnecessary readmissions—key metrics aligned with EHDS objectives.
For patients, ReportAId simplifies access to care. It supports appointment scheduling, medication management, and follow-up tracking. For providers, it improves operational workflows by automating the scheduling of procedures, flagging necessary follow-ups, and helping clinicians make evidence-based decisions in line with treatment guidelines.
While many AI health solutions focus on diagnostics or administrative support, few address the foundational issue of data structuring. ReportAId’s focus on turning unstructured data into intelligent workflows fills this critical gap. According to Irene Mingozzi, Principal at Italian Founders Fund, “ReportAId is tackling one of the healthcare system’s biggest inefficiencies with scalable, elegant technology.”
As the company looks ahead, plans are in place to enhance integration with existing healthcare IT systems, develop specialised AI models for various medical fields, and partner with public healthcare bodies to bring the technology to national scale.
With a clear path to scale and proven results in Italy, ReportAId is well on its way to becoming a vital infrastructure layer in the European health ecosystem.
