Roblox is taking a major leap in AI-powered creativity with the launch of Cube 3D, its first foundational model designed to generate 3D objects. In a bold move, Roblox is also open-sourcing the model, giving developers and creators direct access to this groundbreaking tool.

The company announced the debut of Cube 3D in a press release, highlighting its mission to make 3D creation faster and easier for developers across its vast ecosystem. “With Cube, we aim to boost productivity in 3D development,” Roblox stated. “By generating 3D meshes, creators can explore new ideas instantly and decide which ones to refine and bring to life.”

Roblox explained that Cube 3D is trained to understand and predict 3D shapes like text tokens, much like popular language models that build sentences by predicting the next word. However, instead of words, Cube 3D uses shape tokens to generate entire 3D objects.

This tokenization approach marks a significant innovation in AI-driven 3D modeling. By treating geometric components as tokens, the model predicts the next shape needed—piece by piece—until a complete 3D object emerges. It opens new possibilities for real-time creation and rapid prototyping within the Roblox universe and beyond.

According to Roblox spokesperson Samantha Spielman, the model was trained on a diverse dataset. “We combined licensed and publicly available datasets with experience data from the Roblox platform,” she told The Verge. This unique mix helps Cube 3D generate realistic, creative, and platform-relevant 3D assets.

Roblox isn’t stopping here. The company revealed that Cube 3D will evolve into a multimodal model. Soon, it won’t just rely on 3D datasets but also learn from text, images, videos, and other inputs. This expansion means creators could generate 3D objects simply by uploading an image or typing a description.

Cube 3D will seamlessly integrate with Roblox’s growing suite of AI creation tools, offering developers unmatched flexibility. Whether crafting game assets, designing virtual worlds, or experimenting with new concepts, creators can expect a smoother, faster workflow.

This AI-powered approach could change how 3D assets are created, reducing the technical barriers that often slow down development. By open-sourcing Cube 3D, Roblox invites a broader community of creators, researchers, and AI enthusiasts to refine and expand the model’s capabilities.

As competition heats up in the AI creative space, Roblox’s Cube 3D positions the platform at the forefront of AI-driven 3D modeling. It’s not just a tool—it’s a potential game-changer for developers aiming to build richer, more immersive digital worlds.
