Aviva Investors, the global asset management business of Aviva plc, has announced a strategic €11.4 million investment into Lakestar’s Growth Fund II. This latest commitment reinforces Aviva’s ambition to broaden its exposure to high-growth private markets and back innovation-driven enterprises across Europe.

The move highlights Aviva’s growing focus on venture and growth capital, particularly in disruptive technology sectors with long-term relevance. It also reflects a clear shift towards integrating more alternative assets into client portfolios.

Strengthening Private Market Access for Long-Term Investors

This is Aviva Investors’ third commitment to venture and growth capital. It follows the recent launch of its Venture & Growth Capital Long Term Asset Fund (LTAF). The LTAF was designed to solve a structural problem — limited private market access for Defined Contribution pension schemes and wealth managers.

Through the LTAF, Aviva aims to connect long-term capital with high-impact investments that deliver returns and strategic relevance. The investment into Lakestar’s Growth Fund II will be deployed via this platform.

Lakestar’s Growth Fund II focuses on scaling growth-stage companies in fintech, digitalisation, deeptech, and healthcare. These are businesses with strong foundations and real potential to expand internationally and become market leaders. They need both capital and strategic support to make the leap from early-stage to commercial maturity.

Founded in 2012 by Klaus Hommels — a veteran in European tech investing and current Chair of the NATO Innovation Fund — Lakestar has become a powerhouse in venture and growth investment. The firm has raised over €2 billion and backed more than 210 companies.

Its hands-on approach, deep domain expertise, and strong global network make it an ideal partner for investors seeking scale, innovation, and strategic depth.

Backing Europe’s Boldest Innovators

Lakestar’s portfolio includes some of the most disruptive and promising companies across Europe and the UK. These firms are creating real-world solutions in healthtech, fintech, logistics, and digital infrastructure — all strategic sectors for Europe.

Notable investments include:

  • Neko Health – A Swedish healthtech firm using AI for full-body scans to detect diseases early.
  • Isar Aerospace – A Munich-based space company developing affordable and eco-friendly satellite launch solutions.
  • Revolut – A UK fintech leader transforming banking with a digital-first platform for global finance.
  • Glovo – A Spanish delivery startup offering fast on-demand access to food, groceries, and courier services.
  • GetYourGuide – A Berlin-based traveltech platform curating global travel experiences.
  • Eigen Technologies – A UK AI startup using NLP to extract insights from complex business documents.
  • Sennder – A German digital freight company revolutionising European logistics through real-time, data-driven trucking.

These companies highlight Lakestar’s ability to find and nurture high-growth scaleups with global relevance. They also represent sectors where Europe holds a natural competitive edge.

A Partnership Focused on Long-Term Growth and Purpose

Aviva’s investment into Lakestar reflects more than financial interest — it’s an alignment of vision and strategy. Both firms recognise the power of combining capital with mission-driven innovation to drive real economic impact.

With its investment, Aviva gains access to differentiated, high-growth opportunities at the forefront of tech, health, and digital evolution. This partnership also helps address the increasing demand from institutional clients for growth-focused assets that carry long-term societal value.

Ben Luckett, Managing Director of Venture and Strategic Capital at Aviva Investors, said:
“Lakestar has a rich history and expertise in discovering pioneering companies that have risen to lead their industries, like Spotify and Revolut. The European tech sector has massive potential to generate world-class innovations. We believe Lakestar offers unrivalled access to these opportunities, driving company growth and long-term value for our clients.”

As Europe continues to build a future shaped by technology and sustainability, strategic partnerships like this one will be key. Aviva Investors is positioning itself at the heart of that future — where capital supports purpose and innovation leads to progress.
